Promote

Shameless Self-Promotion - It never hurts...or..No Advertising is Bad Advertising!

So when it comes to promoting your work, you have two options:
  1. Do nothing and hope people find you amongst the millions of images on the Microstock sites
  2. Go crazy doing everything you can to get the word out that you are selling your images
Option 1 doesn't give you a lot of control.  It's great that you took the step to start earning passive income with your work but ultimately, the Microstock websites don't care if a customer buys your image or someone else's.  They still made a sale.

Option 2 gives you a lot more control over how many people you get your pictures in front of and how many more sales you make.

You are probably asking yourself; "What can I possibly do to get cash for pictures and increase my sales on Microstock websites?"

the short answer is... A LOT!
  1. I developed my own website that displays my images. All the images link directly to the sale page on the Microstock website.
  2. I have a blog that likewise promotes my work and shares all kinds of glorious insights with my readers.  I set it up using WordPress and I mirrored it with an identical blog on Blogger (since Google owns blogger, I half believe Google ranks blogger blogs higher in its search engine).
  3. Add Facebook, Twitter, Google, Digg and other buttons to any posts and updates to your blog.
  4. Use Pingooat -Pingoat is a service that pings or notifies a number of services that keep track of weblogs and publish them. By pinging, you let the services know that your blog has been updated and hence, they crawl and index your site, publishing your blog contents, thus increasing your blog's popularity
  5. Squidoo and Hubpages allow you to create a lens (a one-page info-pitch for your topic)  You can link it back to your Stock Images.  Squidoo, Tumblr and Hubpages tend to rank higher in Goolge even years after they were created.
  6. Wix.com free home pages - I am just starting to work with this site. Wix allows you to create a free webpage that is hosted on their servers.  In my opinion, and service like this is good because these websites are putting in the time, money and effort of SEO and if you can piggy-back off of that...why wouldn't you?
  7. Twitter - Need I say more?
  8. Facebook Fanpage - another no-brainer
  9. ...Thinking of more.
